Proposed Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) Modernization & Revitalization Project MART is applying for a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant to fund a proposed revitalization of the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC). The ITC, located at 100–160 Main Street in Fitchburg, serves as the primary mobility hub for the rural Montachusett Region. The facility supports MART’s fixed-route and paratransit services. Ridership continues to grow due to Massachusetts’ fare-free transit initiatives and expanding pedestrian and bicycle activity through the Fitchburg–Leominster corridor coordinated by Massachusetts Department of Transportation (Mass DOT). This proposed grant-funded project will modernize the ITC, restore it to a state of good repair, and ensure it can safely and efficiently serve current and future rural transportation needs. Projects for this revitalization include repairs to the exterior sidewalks, modernization of the restrooms, and modification to the bus bays and elevator systems to fortify ADA compliance. New windows and doors are also in-scope to improve energy efficiency. Both an updated security office and outdoor lighting are envisioned to enhance safety. Finally, parking garage improvements include resurfacing and restriping. We welcome any feedback or concerns related to this proposed grant application.
